Partial least squares can be used to model joint variation between high-dimensional genomic data and high-dimensional brain morphometry. When we look for optimal gene-phenotype component pairs, rather than testing individual gene effects on individual imaging markers, we can detect our genes' effect on the brain more accurately with greater sensitivity.
